Newcomers

Welcome to the SCA

First of all – welcome to the small corner of the Known World called Storvik! This barony is an active one, and the best way to get involved is by showing up. If you have questions or just want to make sure someone knows you’re coming, feel free to email our new member officer, also known as a Chatelaine, at chatelaine[at]storvik.atlantia.sca.org. We also recommend that you check the calendar for schedule updates or changes.

Newcomers are more than welcome to join us at our regular activities:

Heavy Combat & Rapier
Also known as ‘Fighting’ and ‘Fencing’, respectively. We have a weekly fighting & fencing practices every Monday night at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in College Park, MD from 7:00-10:00 pm. Both fighting and fencing are open to women and men. Come and watch, or join in. Questions may be directed to our Knight Marshal. Don’t have gear? Contact our Quartermaster.

St Andrew’s Episcopal Church: 4512 College Ave, College Park, MD 20740

Directions: Take your best route to the Washington Beltway (I-495). Take exit 25 (Rt. 1) South, and follow Rt. 1 South. After about 2 miles, take a left onto College Ave (The MD book exchange is on left). The church is two blocks down on the left.

Dancing and Music
We welcome dancers and musicians of all levels to the weekly dance practice. You are free to come solo or with a partner – we will teach you all our dances. The practice is from 8:00 – 10:00pm at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in College Park, MD, the same venue as our heavy combat and rapier practices.

Archery
All levels are welcome to join us at the Adelphi archery range when the weather is cooperative.  We generally meet on Sundays at noon at the Adelphi Manor Archery Range, just down the road from the intersection of Adelphi Road and University Blvd (Most map applications can find “Adelphi Manor Archery Range” or “Adelphi Archery Range”). Loaner equipment is usually available, but advanced notice is appreciated – contact the Chatelaine, send a question to the email list, or contact us through Facebook and we will make sure that there is enough equipment to go around.

Sewing and Costume Research
There are periodic get-togethers for sewing and garb(costume) research, as well as other A&S (arts and sciences) events and get togethers. They are the place to get ideas, help, and generally spend time around other people who enjoy sticking needles into fabric. Check the calendar for upcoming events.

Baronial at Home and Newcomer Nights
Once a month, usually on a Tuesday, our Baron and Baroness welcome members new and old to their home in Catonsville, MD (it is a little bit outside the Barony). There are different activities, sometimes working on crafts and the like, or sometimes gaming. Check the calendar for the next Baronial at Home.

Newcomers are also welcome at any and all of our gatherings, so please don’t feel shy – stop by and say hello! If you want more information or to let someone know you’ll be attending, feel free to contact our Chatelaine, Lady Sonya Flicker (called Patches).
